How to evaluate a nearshore partner: a practical guide for CTOs
Choosing a nearshore partner is an engineering decision as much as a business one. The hourly rate is the easiest thing to compare and the least important. These are the four axes we recommend every CTO review:
1. Evidence, not promises. Ask for case studies with concrete metrics and, if possible, speak directly with a current client. 2. Engineering process. How do they handle code review, CI/CD, testing, and technical debt? A mature partner describes its processes without hesitation. 3. Talent retention. The biggest risk in a long project is turnover: ask how long the average engineer has been with the company. 4. Communication. Evaluate the quality of their English, the clarity of their reporting, and their response speed during the sales process itself; that is how it will be during the project.
A good nearshore partner does not hide behind a contract: it shows up in the daily operation.
